This couple. This wonderful couple celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary yesterday, and it was my honor and pleasure to be a part of their celebration.
I met Shawn and Kelly Holiday exactly one year prior, on their 19th anniversary, as they searched for a bronze jewelry piece to commemorate the occasion in the traditional way. We had a great conversation and I learned about Shawn’s nonprofit, Cycles 4 Hope. Kelly became an instant fan (she says ‘groupie,’ lol) and has collected several Tula in Bloom pieces since, and I’ve had the pleasure of seeing them occasionally at local events as they enjoy a night on the town. Last week, Shawn contacted me about a special surprise he wanted to arrange for Kelly to celebrate their 20 years together. We planned a private workshop in which he and Kelly would learn a few jewelry-making skills to create a one-of-a-kind anniversary piece.
To say Kelly was surprised to find herself at the door of my home studio was an understatement. She genuinely had no idea, and Shawn and I shared a high-five at our success in pulling it off. The couple enjoyed some appetizers and we shared great conversation and a toast to the evening before digging into the tools and materials of jewelry-making. I learned that instead of a big trip overseas to celebrate, they chose to donate the allocated money to causes they care about, including refugee resettlement (Kelly works with World Relief Organization). It was my sincere pleasure to get to know these awesome people I’m lucky to call clients (and now friends) better.
Shawn was a natural at jewelry making and by the end of the workshop, made Kelly a pair of cool, modern earrings that she loved. I sent them off to local favorite South restaurant to end the evening with a delicious southern-style dinner. To help mark such an important occasion in this creative and personalized way fills me with gratitude and I appreciate Shawn for trusting me and reaching out. Happy 20th, you two!
